Healing and Anointing (Meal that Heals)

Mark 5:30 reveals that on the application of faith would result in them feeling the healing virtue enter their bodies.

Laying on of hands was also a basic doctrine in the early church and this was the way the anointing was transferred from one person to another.

Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

The author states that forgiveness and healing, prayer of faith go together.

James 5:14-15
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

The word here sickness may refer to spiritual depression as well as physical sickness. The Good Samaritan “bound the wounds by pouring in oil and wine.

"Thou anointest my head with oil"

At the end of the day the shepherd would position himself at the door of the sheepfold examining the sheep for any injuries as they passed, especially the head. He would have a large bowl of olive oil mingled with spices, and a large jar of water. After a careful examination of the head and the body for wounds, the wounds would be cleaned by dipping the hand into the oil and anointing the injury. The healing properties of the oil would heal the injuries quickly.

Then the shepherd would dip a cup in water which would come out over flowing with water and the sheep drank from it till it felt refreshed.

What is anointing?

The act of anointing indicated the bestowal of authorization through the spirit to act in certain capacities.

Oil is a symbol of the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Under the old covenant the pouring of the olive oil meant that the spirit of the Lord would come upon them.

1 Sam 16:13

Anointing of the Holy Spirit breaks the yoke as mentioned in Isaiah 10:27

Kings were anointed. Priests were anointed. A Prophet was anointed. Jesus was anointed.

Earlier the elders would pray over the sick in faith anointing them with oil and a healing ensued.

The healed individuals had to then confess their faults to one another and to pray for one another.

Did you know that

The word oil is derived from the word olive.

Many ointments were prepared using the oil of an olive with other oils or resins, as a fuel for the golden candlesticks, baked into certain wafers used in sacrifice and poured upon other sacrifices
